JOB GOAL:  

  • To enhance the capabilities of the Child Nutrition Department in order to better serve our students and community at large.
  • Promote a positive image that supports the mission of the district; work with all Child Nutrition personnel to continuously improve the financial stability and professionalism of the total department
  • Assist the Director of Child Nutrition in ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal requirements and regulations governing child nutrition programs such as USDA donated food usage and free and reduced programs for eligible students
  • Supervises the implementation of child nutrition dietary guidelines in conformance with local, state, and federal regulations and requirements including public health and safety
  • Compiles, maintains, files, and presents all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Prepares, processes, and maintains all documents required to verify campus kitchen areas meet health code and sanitation standards.
  • Assists with menu planning, facilities planning, resource allocation, and organization and implementation of nutrition programs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Twelve (12) Month (245 days) contract - PAY 703 - GRADE 120 - $57,109 to $99,227 plus benefits package.  NOTE:  Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience.  FLSA: Exempt 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Foods and Nutrition, Home Economics, Food Service Management, or closely related field from an accredited college or university required.
  2. Registered Dietitian and School Nutrition Association (SNA) Credentialed and Certification preferred.
  3. Minimum five years’ experience in school nutrition including three years in an operational administrative/managerial capacity.
  4. Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing multiple campus food service facilities including conducting on-site reviews district-wide.
  5. Strongly skilled in staff management, team building, operations, projects, and budgets on a large scale. Exhibits positive leadership within the Child Nutrition Department and in dealing with all district staff, students, outside organizations, and the general public.
  6. Highly detail orientated; self-directed; able to work in a fast-paced environment; skills in problem-solving and decision making
  7. Strong oral and written communications skills; and an ability to maintain confidentiality
  8. Ability to produce routine reports and correspondence as needed, including monthly financial reports.  Completes and submits required reports on dates due.
  1. Experience in computer operations, specifically Microsoft Office, and a strong operational knowledge of Child Nutrition accountability software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.   1. Assist the Director to expand the feeding program; assuring compliance with program requirements, budget development, inventory management, staffing, and menu planning; review procedures followed at each site and recommend positive changes as appropriate.
  2. Assists with the child nutrition budget and ensures that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.
  3. Responsible for marketing the program on social media and various platforms to increase positive visibility outcomes.
  4. Conduct, with the CN Supervisor, training of cafeteria managers to develop work schedules and production standards, prepare quality meals and understand and use record-keeping and ordering systems in accordance with district policy; instruct, train, and assist employees in the proper handling of foods, correct use and care of equipment and in maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety.
  5. Assist the Nutritionist/Procurement Specialist in developing specifications for new and replacement equipment; communicate with vendors to secure the best quality for the price.
  6. Evaluate, with the CN Maintenance Supervisor, potential product purchases and negotiate installation procedures; coordinate the disposal of antiquated or excess equipment.
  7. Routinely visits school cafeterias to evaluate products, recipes and student acceptability of menu items.
  8. Supervises the collection of required documentation for students with food allergies.
  9. Supervises training on diet modifications and food allergies; monitors implementation throughout the department.
  10. Develops and maintains positive relationships with food distributors in order to facilitate delivery schedules, and serve as the backup person for all ordering procedures.
  11. Assists with the preparation of food and other bids specifications and monitors pricing from all vendors to assure bid prices are met
  12. Participate in contract negotiations for child nutrition-related services, evaluate formal bids, and makes recommendations to the Director of Child Nutrition for the awarding of contracts
  13. Ensures that measures are in place and operating to protect food, supplies, and equipment in school cafeterias and in the warehouse.
  14. Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  15. Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
  16. Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance.
  17. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
