JOB GOAL:
The Painter works under general supervision. Performs a variety of painting tasks on the interior and exterior of buildings and other items; maintains supplies; performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve (12) month (245 days) contract, Pay 804 Grade 08, plus benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on education and experience. FLSA: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the painting trade.
- Knowledge of the safety precautions used in the painting trade.
- Ability to work on ladders and scaffolds.
- Ability to match and mix paint colors.
- Skills in the use, operation and care of painting equipment.
- At least six (6) years of progressively more responsible experience in the painting trade.
- Must have a valid Arkansas Drivers’ License.
- Must be willing to submit to and pass a drug test if requested.
Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.
- Performs a variety of painting tasks on the interior and exterior of buildings and other items.
- Receives work orders from supervisor;
- Places newspapers, tarps, or other covering around areas not being refinished; erects ladders or scaffolds to reach area being refinished when necessary; prepares walls, woodwork, ceilings, doors and various furniture items for refinishing; washes items with soap or other cleaner to remove grease or other oily substances; removes old paint, stains, varnish, enamel or lacquer using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes or blow torch; fills in cracks or other irregularities by using putty, plastic wood, plaster or other hardening substances; applies hardening substance with putty knife or trowel where necessary; smoothes surface for refinish using sandpaper, brushes or steel wool;
- Selects proper paint for finish by matching specified colors; mixes paints using required portion of pigments, oils, thinning and drying substances or may use pre-mixed paints; selects proper method of painting using brushes, paint roller or spray gun; records time worked and material used and reports to supervisor; cleans area when completed.
- Maintains supplies: cleans brushes, paint rollers or spray gun with water (latex paint) or kerosene (oil base paint); inventories supply areas; notifies supervisor when supplies are low or need replacement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, and operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
